Service Description: Judicial tribunal that provides compensation to victims of violent crime in Ontario as defined under the Canadian Criminal Code

Dependents of deceased crime victims or those injured while trying to prevent a crime may also be eligible

Awards - Compensation may be awarded for expenses actually and reasonably incurred resulting from the victim's injury or death * emergency expenses resulting from a personal injury or death, such as medical expenses, funeral expenses and interim counselling * loss of wages as a consequence of the total or partial disability affecting the victim's capacity to work; financial loss to the dependents of a deceased victim * pain and suffering * maintenance of a child born as a result of a sexual assault

Crimes Covered - May include assaults (physical and sexual), murder, attempted murder, robbery, hostage taking, poisoning, arson

Crimes Not Covered - Property offences and motor vehicle offences with the exception of assault with a vehicle (i.e. trying deliberately to run someone over)
Fees: No processing fees
Application: Application form available by phone, mail, fax or on website * must be received within two years of the injury/death of victim or after two-years with approval of the board
Documentation - supporting documents may be required such as medical records or expenses
Eligibility / Population(s) Served: Residents of Ontario 18 years and older * residents under 18 years must be represented by a parent, guardian or legal representative
